About half of WashU undergrads come in with the intention of being premed.

You shouldn’t come to WashU because you want easy medical school acceptance. Is Washington University in St. Louis good to study pre-med? LOL I already saw ur post and scared the shit out of me, New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. The average WashU student still can’t hack it as a premed.

Q. They really go to great lengths to cover up what the true “weed out” rate of the program is.

If you’ve got access to a good state school like UMich, OSU, one of the UCs...go there instead. I can tell you with 100% certainty, if I had any clue whatsoever how insanely difficult it is here to maintain the kinds of grades you need to get into med school, I would have picked a different school. Pretty much all of the information I received about the WashU premed program (from the school) when I was a prospective student turned out to be untrue.

If it's wash u and you're determined to be pre med you're going to have to put in the work like everyone else that goes to med school. I know the other poster talks about how it's tough and that some of the classes are on a B- curve, but it's not like most other schools give out As to everyone and pre med curricula are generally pretty strenuous anywhere.

I had a good, not great application and ended up getting into many amazing schools. When you start looking at any school like Wash U, you're going to find on average a very high success rate (both in the percentage of people who go to med school, and the type of med school they go to). The name on my degree also made a huge difference in med school apps and I can tell you that especially if you want to go to big name schools or go MD/PhD your undergrad instution matters a ton. I’ve been doing my best for months to put people on their guard about the premed program at WashU.

Intro micro/macro have been fine but I want to try some new stuff within econ.

I’ve really enjoyed my experience with my second major in the business school, and a lot of the humanities departments (I think Poli Sci, in particular) are ranked among the best in the country without being unreasonably difficult.

The grading is stupid and the classes are probably harder than they should be.

I/meridian17 is dead on about that. If you want to go to wash u and do all the premed stuff, there are lots of resources to help you on the way.

I had a great balance between work and fun during college. Any current majors I could PM about classes/ professors? WUSTL was definitely a big part of it. By the end of freshman year, more than half of those students will have changed their minds. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. My advice: if you are dead set on becoming a doctor and know you would be miserable if you had to change course, don’t come to WashU. When my daughter was applying to combined BS/MD programs, WashU’s was most strict hence not the most sought after. Thanks! I've seen peeps form SLU, UMSL, and even people form SIUE. Of course, that percentage will only go up towards senior year. I give this same advice when I see posts like these. I had very little background in the sciences after coming from a rural high school, but even with doing 20 hours of research a week+varsity sports never found the classes too terrible. Plenty of people I know from wash u that got into med school have Cs on their transcript. Like, what's their deal? I didn't really use the premed advising at all, other than the one required meeting to review your application when they write your committee cover letter for your LOR packet.
