The adventure begins when Alan loses Fritz, the dog he is sitting for. Worst thing ever. Goodness gracious. Not bad. As Alan chases after the pooch, he ends up by the garden of the great wizard Abdul Gasazi. I loved how detailed Van Allsburg was able to make his illustrations, and how realistic. All of the techniques Van Allsburg uses to describe Fritz can be used when describing any character. Interesting illustrations though not really my preferred style.

It covers the 12 basic spelling words that go with the story plus the 2 challenge words.

You may want to create a list of nice ways students can speak to one another when they don't agree in discussions. I was a little disappointed in the story line, but as usual Van Allsburg's pictures were stunning black and white. -Character traits

I checked this book out because it was supposed to be one of the most beautiful children's books, but I have to disagree.
