The book is divided into sections of short, medium and long poems, which means it could adapted to many classes and also to the school day and time constraints. This is a poetry book encompassing many short poems, songs and long poems. It does not have all the poems but it is the only web that shows a few. 'Heard It in the Playground' by Allan Ahlberg is a fantastic book consisting of a collection of long and short poems and songs. I enjoyed the humorous approach as it means the children will be able to relate to them more. I think this book would be a great way to introduce poems to key stage 2 children as they could identify the patterns, focus on the language and tone used in each poem. The poems range in structure as well as length so can provide inspiration and/or act as examples for children writing their own works. It a very long and happy book about a school where magical and spooky thing happen. There are poems about lost scissors, the class hamster, making friends and falling out, the excitement of a stray dog in playground – and the infamous Derek Drew!

This volume of poetry has a much for serious tone to it than Please Mrs Butler. The poem I didn't like so much is The Puzzle. A good 'all rounder'.
