Since this lake is surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, few towns are located near this lake. If you want to learn more about this lake, you can search for it under various names -- Lake Nottely, Nottely Lake, or Nottely Reservoir. Owned and operated by the City of Blairsville.
Reservoir features a beach and camping area and is a great place for viewing wildlife. The dam is 197 feet high and stretches 3,915 feet across the Nottely River. Lake Nottely was built in 1942 by the Tennessee Valley Authority through the damming of the Nottely River for flood control. Poteete Creek Recreation Area offers the only on-lake campsites from April through October. This is a popular park, situated at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Nottely Boat Club & Marina was established as Terry's Boat Dock in 1941, when construction to create Lake Nottely began, and was later operated as Cozy Cove Marina, until it was sold to new owners in 2014. TVA created this lake in 1942 by impounding the Nottely River. Blairsville, also located in Union County, is the closest town. As lake levels continue to rise, keep an eye out for floating or partially submerged debris. Boaters, anglers, and water skiers can gain access to Lake Nottely through two marinas and several public boat ramps located along the lake's shorelines.

Largemouth bass make up about 70 percent of the black bass species in this lake, and this lake also is one of only three Georgia reservoirs to nurture bronzebacks. The reservoir has a flood-storage capacity of 61,600 acre-feet.
